1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this Advisory Circular (AC) is to provide guidance material for acceptable means, but not the only means, of demonstrating compliance with the requirements of Chapter 525 of the Airworthiness Manual (AWM) dealing with flight control system critical jamming and the use of probability analysis for demonstrating compliance with the requirements
1.2 Guidance Applicability
This document is applicable to all Transport Canada personnel, delegates and industry.
1.3 Description of Changes
This document, formerly AMA No. 525.671 A, is reissued as an AC. With the exception of minor editorial changes the content is unaltered.

2.1 Reference Documents

- (a) Chapter 525 of the Airworthiness Manual (AWM) - Transport Category Aeroplanes; and
- (b) Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circular (FAA AC) 25.1309-1A - System Design and Analysis.
2.2 Cancelled Document
As of the effective date of this document, AMA No. 525.671 A dated 14 July 2000 is cancelled.
3.0 Background
This advisory material replaces the portion of the Transport Canada's Requirement No. 4 "System Failure" dealing with jamming of control systems. Originally, this AC was based on AC 525.1309, which was cancelled in 1991. Currently Transport Canada refers to the advisory material contained in FAA AC 25.1309-1A
4.0 Acceptable Means of Compliance
For the purpose of complying with the requirements of paragraph 525.671(c)(3) Transport Canada considers that any single jam, which can prevent safe flight and landing, will not usually be accepted as being extremely improbable. To demonstrate compliance using the extremely improbable criterion the methodology used in the analysis must be agreed upon with Transport Canada and the assessed numerical values must be substantiated to the satisfaction of Transport Canada to be beyond reasonable doubt.
