The Continuous Synopsis Record ( CSR ) is intended to provide an on-board record of the history of the vessel with respect to information including the vessel's previous names, ownership, classification societies, and administrations/organizations issuing the ISM Code Safety Management Certificate.
From July 1, 2004, SOLAS Chapter XI-1, regulation 5 requires that a Continuous Synopsis Record must be on-board the following types of ships engaged in international voyages:
- all passenger ships (carrying more than 12 passengers);
- cargo ships of 500 gross tonnages and up; and
- mobile offshore drilling units.
Transport Canada, Marine Safety is responsible for issuing Continuous Synopsis Records to Canadian flagged SOLAS convention vessels.
To request an initial or updated CSR, please complete the following
form, and send a copy of it to the Domestic Vessel Regulatory Oversight office. The original should be kept with the on-board CSR
file.
